The Family And Partner Of The Addict
Over the past year, I have been receiving several heartbreaking emails from codependent family members and partners, that are in a relationship with an addict.
I want you to know, my book "The Addict's Loop," is also for codependent's (family or partner,) in a relationship with an addict. My workbook section, breaks down the relationship dynamics and gives several tools for codependent' suffering from addictive relationships. My book is not a replacement for therapy or self-help programs. I believe, codependent's that are in a relationship with an addict, must also seek counseling, therapy and self-help groups. The goal is to build a circle of support around you.
One of the most important concepts in my book, is that I believe most of us have not purposely failed our relationships. Instead, we unconsciously learned during childhood, to destroy our relationships through our inherited codependent role(s). No one enters a relationship thinking, "I got into this relationship because I can't stand this person and I can't wait to destroy it and be miserable." We enter our relationships with all our best interests, hope and love.
My book goes deep and uncovers destructive codependent patterns. It will hold a mirror up to your codependent behavior and give you tools and solutions. It'll take your courage and patience, to awaken and surrender your inherited codependent role(s) and separate from them. I believe, we must awaken, reclaim our core and learn to stay out of unconscious codependence. Not only for ourselves but for our children. To do this, we must identify our inherited codependent behavior and programming and completely divorce ourselves from it. This is a process not a quick fix. The choice is always yours.
